Hawaiian Flower Earrings Carved Bone 1960s Vintage

Hand Carved in Hawaii in the 1960s, you might think these earrings are elephant ivory. They look almost identical to real ivory but they are carved fish bone and are a brighter shade of white than ivory.

Most old ivory jewelry tends to have a yellow or tan look, but these earrings are eggshell white. The earrings are not cow bone, which can also be slightly tan or brown. Fish bone has a glossy bright white appearance and tight molecular structure. A resonance ping test also indicates they are not dense and weighty like cow bone as the earrings have a high pitch resonance.

The earrings are for pierced ears and the flower design looks like that of frangipani. The earrings are large, about the size of a US silver dollar, or 1 3/8" or 35 mm wide.

Both earrings are in spectacular pristine microscopically clean condition with no imperfections or flaws. New ear studs have been added for you (not in photos).
