In great condition it was purchased at at jewelry boutique shop. It was used to display an assortment of rings my wife bought for out kitchen and would regularly put fresh fruit or candies on it.
This is a chunk of ancient redwood burl. A young redwood piece would not be this dense nor this heavy. While redwood quite light in weight this piece has density and heaviness that comes from the heavy tannin levels as well as from the tight grain found inside ancient redwood burl.
